The oil is extracted from the dried pulp and shell. A raw (unrefined) and filtered oil is obtained. Natural sun protector and a powerful antioxidant. It helps the body to repair the sun damage from hair and skin. Buriti oil has a high concentration in carotenoids (1700 ppm), oleic acid (70-75%), tocopherols (800 ppm), polyphenols, and phytosterols. Carotenoids are the potent natural antioxidants and give the oils an orange–red color that is very pronounced in crude oil. Carotenoids responsible for many functional properties as antioxidant activity, prevention of cardiovascular disease, cancer, macular degeneration and in some cases provitamin A.
